La Balagne
La Balagne is a little area situated in the north-west of Corsica, in between the Cinto mountains and the Mediterranean sea.
It runs over the Fango valley (in the south west) and the Agriates desert (north east). Famous for the beauty of its beaches and the clearliness of the water, La Balagne is also rich of its history and inheritance : you will discover churches, strongholds and small villages where you will quickly feel at home.
Its villages hanging to the mountain, its bell-towers, its hills and its plains stretching towards the sea gives it all its authenticity. It has very hot summers with maximum temperatures of 36° on the littoral and 26° in the mountains, alterning with soft winters ( skiing stations at Mount Cinto !). The softness of its mediterranean climate and the fertility of its ground are worth the nickname of "Garden of Corsica".

These numerous activities have quite a common denominator: the sun of the Mediterranean Sea and a privileged climate guaranteed 8 months of the year.
Calvi is situated in the northwest of Corsica, such a beauty spot was overlaid(inlayed) on the island. Due to its nearness privileged with the continent (173 km of coast(ribs) of Nice) and its strategic position in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Calvi is opened on the world and people who surround him(it). Situated unless two hours of plane of the main European capitals, as Paris, London, Milan or Amsterdam, her(it) offers the disorientation of distant destinations.
Climate
Under the influence of the Mediterranean sea and at the heart of the Golf of Genova, Corsica profits of a previledged climate which can vary under the variations of altitudes and winds and caracterised by a dry and hot climate in summer. The sun shines almost all year long. On the shore, temperatures do not go down 5°C in winter and can go up to 30 °c in summer.
Autumn and spring are particularly nice. Water temperature is about 18°C since the middle of May and climbs to 25°C in August and go down to 18°C again in November.
Unlike Bonifacio, Calvi owes its awesome appearance, preserved so far, to the Genovians.Though the capital of the Balagne has become a highly-standard sea resort dedicated to sea activities and tourism, it has, in spite of all this, kept, behind its belt of walls, memmories of its past as a fortificated city.
